| Our Mission in the 21st Century |
As a continuation of the ancient Church, the living Body of Christ, the United American Orthodox Catholic Church can have no other mission than that which was set down for us by the Master: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Our goals are the same as those set forth in 1927 at the conception of the autonomous, independent, American Orthodox Church, to undertake the “responsibility and duty of caring and providing for American Orthodoxy.” This will be accomplished in accordance with the canons and practices of the Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church.
We shall endeavor to awaken in the hearts of American Orthodox Christians a spiritual presence that will sustain them through whatever buffeting the world may inflict on them. Toward this, we shall:
- Nurture our parishioners at every stage of inter- and intra-personal development;
- Uphold the standard of a well-educated, well-trained clergy;
- Develop a new generation of “user-friendly” liturgical and educational texts;
- Pursue real communion with other Orthodox Christians, parishes, and jurisdictions over token unity; and
- Emphasize the value of small, local parishes over so-called “mega-churches.”
